Alateen Information

Alateen, a part of the Al-Anon Family Groups, is for teens whose lives have been affected by someone else’s drinking.  As members of the Al-Anon fellowship, Alateens share their experience, strength, and hope in order to gain a better understanding of alcoholism and to lessen its effects on their own lives.

Starting an Alateen group requires adult Alateen Group Sponsors, who are active members of the Al-Anon Family Groups.  Safety and Behavioral Requirements for Alateen are in place in every state and province with procedures of certification for Al-Anon Members Involved in Alateen Service.

The minimum requirements include current active attendance and participation in Al-Anon for at least two years (in addition to any time spent in Alateen), a minimum of 21 years of age, and no felony convictions and no child abuse charges.  Local areas may have additional requirements.

The following pamphlets provide general information about Al-Anon/Alateen. If you would like to be contacted by a local member for more information, obtain additional literature, have a presentation and/or open an Alateen group please send us your name, phone number, and location to groupservices@al-anon.org.
